15.04 If qualified and trained, police officers on restricted duty status can fill openings in the
<br />communications center if needed. Police officers must be on regular scheduled duty, not called
<br />in for overtime to fill such vacancy.
<br />ARTICLE 16 GENERAL LEAVE
<br />16.01 All leaves of absence must be applied for and granted in writing on forms provided by the
<br />City (copy to the employee). An employee will be notified in writing within three (3) working
<br />days from the date the application was made of the approval or disapproval of any leave of
<br />absence. A full-time employee shall accumulate seniority during any leave of absence, except
<br />during personal leaves of absence. Upon returning from leaves of absence, the Union will
<br />receive notification of the employee's status. No leave will be granted for working other
<br />employment.
<br />16.02 If it is found that a leave of absence is not actually being used for the purpose for which it
<br />was granted, the City may cancel the leave, direct the employee to return to work, and impose
<br />disciplinary action up to and including termination. The City has the right to refuse any request
<br />for general leave of absence.
<br />ARTICLE 17 LEAVES OF ABSENCE
<br />17.01 if a death occurs among members of the employee's immediate family (spouse, person
<br />living as spouse, parent of a minor child(ren), son, daughter, stepchild, mother, father,
<br />stepparent, and any person acting in loco parentis), such employee member shall be
<br />granted ten (10) days funeral leave, consecutive and contiguous to the death or memorial
<br />service without loss of pay, benefits, days off, holidays, or vacation time, provided that
<br />such leave may be extended, within the discretion of the Chief of Police, based on
<br />individual circumstances.
<br />17.02 If a death occurs among members of the employee's family of brother, sister, father-in-
<br />law, or mother-in-law, such employee member shall be granted five (5) days funeral
<br />leave, consecutive and contiguous to the death or memorial service, without loss of pay,
<br />benefits, days off, holidays, or vacation time, provided that such leave may be extended
<br />within the discretion of the Chief of Police, based on individual circumstances.
<br />17.03 If a death occurs to a grandfather, grandmother, grandfather -in-law, grandmother -in-law,
<br />grandson or granddaughter, brother-in-law, or sister-in-law, aunt or uncle niece or
<br />nephew such employee member shall be granted two (2) days funeral leave, consecutive
<br />and contiguous to the death or memorial service, without loss of pay, benefits, days off,
<br />holidays or vacation time. Employees will complete the appropriate form in Precinct
<br />Manager.
<br />17.04 Employee members, while serving upon a jury in any court of record, shall be paid at the
<br />employee's regular salary rate for each of the employee's workdays during the period of time so
<br />served. Time so served shall be deemed active and continuous service for all purposes. In
