In response to questions, the administration provided assurance that the ordinance would not <br /> inhibit public art. The Spectacular Vernacular program is already steering artists away from <br /> painting on brick and instead using paneling and/or vinyl wraps. <br /> Director Leininger explained that upon passage of the ordinance, Planning Commission will <br /> have to take an additional step to authorize its inclusion into the workbook of design standards. <br /> The administration further clarified that Ordinance 17-2020 only requires input from ABR, not <br /> Planning Commission. <br /> In response to questions from the Committee, Director Leininger explained that when the <br /> ordinance was discussed with ARB and Lakewood Heritage Advisory Board, they agreed that all <br /> brick should be treated equal regardless of location (residential vs. commercial) and regardless of <br /> the amount of brick being painted. This is because of the issues this could cause within the <br /> building structure. <br /> The Committee discussed ways to amend the legislation to exclude the re-painting of brick that <br /> is currently painted. <br /> A motion was made and seconded to amend the second sentence of 1325.04 as follows: <br /> The painting of previously unaltered masonry or covering thereof by other methods,either in whole or in part, shall <br /> be considered an alteration to an exterior elevation. <br /> A roll call vote was conducted as follows: <br /> Yea: Shachner, Kepple, Rader <br /> Nay: none <br /> Motion adopted.
