A K E 'W' D D D,
May 3, 2021
VIA EMAIL
Mayor Meghan George Councilperson Tristan Councilperson Sarah
Councilman Tom Bullock Rader Kepple
Council President Dan Councilperson Jason Councilwoman Tess Neff
O'Malley Shachner Councilman John Litten
Re: Draft Letter by Councilman Bullock to Support Additional Amenities Near Madison Park
Basketball Court
Dear Mayor George and Lakewood City Council Representatives,
This letter is in addendum and response to the letter drafted by Councilman Bullock for
introduction at tonight's City Council meeting. I have been asked to submit this letter on behalf
of the Lakewood Outdoor Basketball Committee (LOBC).
The LOBC thanks Councilman Bullock, Mayor George, and City Council for their support of
installing additional amenities near the Madison Park Basketball Court and is also appreciative
to Mayor George for reinstalling the Basketball Hoops. The Committee would like to add
specifics suggestions, in addendum, to Councilman Bullock's draft and are looking forward to
additional conversations with city leadership to drive these changes forward. We strongly
believe that these changes are in the best interest of the public health and wellness of
Lakewood residents and will drive increased use of the Basketball court and surrounding park
areas.
With these continuing conversations and changes, the LOBC's goal is to remove the social
stigma associated with outdoor basketball courts in Lakewood, increase the diversity of
residents who use the park, as well as discourage unsafe conduct and activities at the courts
and park areas.
Based on feedback gathered both in person and through digital communications, here is a list
of park/basketball court requests from residents and users of Madison Park:
Structural Additions
Installation of 2-3 grills with available picnic table seating
1
