<br />RESOLUTION NO.2021-21 BY: of Malley, Rader, Shachner
<br />A RESOLUTION to recognize the month of June 2021 as Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual,
<br />Transgender, Queer+ (LGBTQ+) Pride Month in the City of Lakewood.
<br />WHEREAS, this Council and City are committed to making Lakewood an inclusive, safe,
<br />and welcoming place the LGBTQ+ community and for all those who live, work, and visit our City;
<br />and,
<br />WHEREAS, all people, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, age, ability, race,
<br />color, religion, national origin, or physical challenges have the right to feel safe in our community,
<br />and live free of discrimination and harassment; and,
<br />WHEREAS, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer+ (LGBT) community
<br />has made significant contributions to the cultural, social, and economic successes of Lakewood;
<br />and,
<br />WHEREAS, this Council and City are proud of their demonstrated efforts to support the
<br />LGBTQ+ community in Lakewood, noting the passage of Ordinance 1-16 in 2016, which prohibits
<br />discrimination against LGBTQ+ workers and residents in the workplace, housing, public
<br />accommodation, and in education, as well as banning the harmful practice of conversion therapy
<br />within Lakewood's borders; and,
<br />WHEREAS, this Council will continue to work to ensure full inclusion, safety, equality,
<br />and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community; now therefore
<br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO:
<br />Section 1. That this Council and Administration does hereby declare June 2021 as
<br />LGBTQ+ Pride Month in the City of Lakewood.
<br />Section 2. That this Council and Administration does hereby recognize the LGBTQ+
<br />community's contributions to Lakewood success and expresses its commitment to further
<br />progress.
<br />Section 3. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning
<br />and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council,
<br />and that all such deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in such
<br />formal action, were in meetings open to the public, in compliance with all legal requirements.
