ORDINANCE 21-2021 - AN ORDINANCE to take effect immediately provided it <br /> receives the affirmative vote of at least two thirds of the members of Council, or otherwise <br /> to take effect and be in force at the earliest period allowed by law, amending Sections <br /> within Chapter 144 Civil Service Commission to allow lateral entry police officers to be <br /> hired with a grant of seniority for purposes of salary based on prior civil service police <br /> service. RESOLUTION 2021-31 - A RESOLUTION to supportthe Medicare for All Act of 2021. <br /> (pg. 026) <br /> Councilmember Rader spoke about the need for universal healthcare and the burden of medical <br /> debt. He remarked that the pandemic has highlighted this need all the more, noting the <br /> expansion of the Medicaid roles during the pandemic. He urged support of the resolution. <br /> Motion by President O'Malley, seconded by Vice President Litten to receive and file. All <br /> members voted in favor. Motion passed. <br /> Motion by President O'Malley, seconded by Vice President Litten to adopt Resolution 2021- <br /> 31. <br /> President O'Malley remarked that the U.S. healthcare system is unsustainable and inadequate <br /> compared to the systems in other industrialized nations.
