In response to a question, Ms. Rooney made predictions about the future needs for rental assistance in the community. She predicted that needs will not worsen but that it may be a while before things are back to baseline. Councilmember Litten highlighted the large investment in homeless prevention and expressed hope that it will make a difference. It was discussed that the funds do not have to spent until the end of 2026. Ms. Rooney stressed the valuable relationships between LCSC social workers and the community as well as the value of helping people stay in their homes. Council and the administration discussed the mechanics of the appropriation and the budget rationale. It was mentioned that this particular proposal provides funds through June 30, 2022. The administration is considering proposing additional funds to sustain the program for additional years. More information will be forthcoming in September. Mayor George and President O'Malley shared final thoughts on the importance of this program to keep residents in their homes. 15. RESOLUTION 2021-32 - A RESOLUTION to take effect immediately provided it receives the affirmative vote of at least two thirds of the members of Council, or otherwise to take effect and be in force after the earliest period allowed by law, authorizing the Mayor and Director of Planning and Development to enter into an agreement with Lakewood Community Services Center for the provision of Emergency Rent Assistance with funds allocated from the American Rescue Plan Act in the amount of$1,680,006. (pg. 03 1) Motion by President O'Malley, seconded by Vice President Litten to suspend the rules for the purpose of adopting Resolution 2021-32 upon first reading.
