In response to a question, Ms. Rooney made predictions about the future needs for rental <br /> assistance in the community. She predicted that needs will not worsen but that it may be a <br /> while before things are back to baseline. <br /> Councilmember Litten highlighted the large investment in homeless prevention and expressed <br /> hope that it will make a difference. It was discussed that the funds do not have to spent until <br /> the end of 2026. <br /> Ms. Rooney stressed the valuable relationships between LCSC social workers and the <br /> community as well as the value of helping people stay in their homes. <br /> Council and the administration discussed the mechanics of the appropriation and the budget <br /> rationale. It was mentioned that this particular proposal provides funds through June 30, 2022. <br /> The administration is considering proposing additional funds to sustain the program for <br /> additional years. More information will be forthcoming in September. <br /> Mayor George and President O'Malley shared final thoughts on the importance of this program <br /> to keep residents in their homes. <br /> 15. RESOLUTION 2021-32 - A RESOLUTION to take effect immediately provided it <br /> receives the affirmative vote of at least two thirds of the members of Council, or otherwise <br /> to take effect and be in force after the earliest period allowed by law, authorizing the Mayor <br /> and Director of Planning and Development to enter into an agreement with Lakewood <br /> Community Services Center for the provision of Emergency Rent Assistance with funds <br /> allocated from the American Rescue Plan Act in the amount of$1,680,006. (pg. 03 1) <br /> Motion by President O'Malley, seconded by Vice President Litten to suspend the rules for the <br /> purpose of adopting Resolution 2021-32 upon first reading. A roll call vote was taken as <br /> follows: <br /> Yeas: Bullock, Kepple, Litten, Neff, O'Malley, Rader, Shachner <br /> Nays: none <br /> Motion adopted. Rules suspended. <br /> Motion by President O'Malley, seconded by Vice President Litten to adopt Resolution 2021- <br /> 32. A roll call vote was taken as follows: <br /> Yeas: Bullock, Kepple, Litten, Neff, O'Malley, Rader, Shachner <br /> Nays: none <br /> Motion adopted. Resolution 2021-32 adopted. <br />
