Chief Kaucheck discussed the process of training officers and outlined what staff would be <br /> filling the neighborhood officer positions. The remaining 2 open spots should be filled on a <br /> permanent basis by September or October. <br /> President O'Malley and Mayor George discussed the basketball court mentorship program, <br /> which was created in partnership with the Lakewood Outdoor Basketball Committee. The city <br /> has made a commitment to triple the funds towards the grant program, which traditionally has <br /> run from June through August. Staff has now started working as of May 1st and the city is in the <br /> process of recruiting other mentors. <br /> Public Comment:Julia Toke Ms. Toke inquired whether the police department receives anti- <br /> racist and de-escalation training. ChiefKaucheck noted that it does, highlighting the anti-bias <br /> policy and critical incident training. <br /> Casey Davis Ms. Davis spoke on behalf of the Lakewood Outdoor Basketball Committee and <br /> Madison Block Party, asking for a long-term commitment for the court mentorship program. <br /> Mayor George indicated that the group has her commitment and expressed her belief in the <br /> program's importance. <br /> Councilmember Bullock questioned whether non-police city staff would be present at Madison <br /> Park. Mayor George indicated that there will be park security guards at Madison Park & <br /> Lakewood Park on a rotation. <br /> Vice President Litten provided an overview of all issues discussed and action items moving <br /> forward. President O'Malley stated there would be future public meetings on the topics <br /> discussed. <br /> The meeting was adjourned at 7:04 p.m. <br />
