Provide a brief narrative description of your idea:
Participatory budgeting (PB) is a democratic process in which community members decide how to
spend part of a public budget. It gives people real power over real money. The New York Times
calls PB "revolutionary civics in action"— it deepens democracy, builds stronger communities, and.
creates a more equitable distribution of public resources. PB is an annual cycle of engagement that
is integrated into a regular budgeting process.
Take a look at Cambridge, MA's PB progress as an example: https://pb.cambridgema.gov/
2. Briefly explain how this will benefit the community:
People learn democracy by doing it.
PS is a gateway to more civic engagement that creates paths to lifelong civic engagement.
Participants see the tangible results of investing in their community, often inspiring them to become more involved..
PB increases engagement in elections, making people 7% more likely to vote.
3.
