to uncover what may or may not have been working and to improve communication. <br /> Superintendent Niedzwiecki also announced that the district is hiring a new cabinet level <br /> position—Director of Community and District Activities. The position has just recently been <br /> posted and there will be several rounds of interviews. The Mayor's Chief of Staff has been asked <br /> to sit in on interviews. Superintendent Niedzwiecki discussed the goals and expectations for the <br /> position and the person who will be selected to hold it. <br /> Discussion: In response to questions, Superintendent Niedzwiecki explained that she is looking <br /> for a candidate with demonstrated leadership abilities who can help the district to create a vision. <br /> She responded to additional questions regarding the goals for the position and the needs it will <br /> serve. She clarified that the position would oversee recreation, civic and athletics. <br /> Superintendent Niedzwiecki emphasized that the recreation department's goal is to serve all <br /> residents of all ages. Ms. Barcelona emphasized that recreation links the entire community to the <br /> schools, not just families with school aged kids. She spoke about the importance of recreation <br /> utilizing the schools as community spaces for all. <br /> In response to a question, Mayor George reported that the baseball field reconstruction will begin <br /> in March and is estimated to wrap up by May 1st,weather permitting. The Recreation <br /> Department is in the loop on this. OSports is the contractor. <br /> Foster Pool <br /> Director Leininger provided a presentation regarding the Foster Pool redesign project. He <br /> discussed the history or the pool and the need for the renovation. City Council approved funding <br /> for the project in late 2021. He discussed the collaboration of the city's contractor, the <br /> Recreation Department and the city as well as the various opportunities for public input <br /> including a survey and two open houses. He discussed the current version of the design and how <br /> it aims to strike a balance between competitive needs and recreational needs. He discussed the <br /> timeline, noting that construction will begin in fall 2022 and will hopefully be complete by <br /> spring 2023. <br /> Discussion: Board members expressed excitement and enthusiasm for the new design. In <br /> response to a question, Director Leininger confirmed that the pool's final design is shown in the <br /> handouts. <br /> In response to question, Director Leininger discussed the process and compromises that <br /> happened in order to accommodate the city's need to serve those with recreational goals and <br /> those with competitive goals. <br /> Environmental Projects <br /> Superintendent Niedzwiecki announced that the schools recently installed an electric vehicle <br /> charging station at Lakewood High School and are currently investigating options for a solar <br /> energy project. <br /> 4 <br />
