In conclusion, President O'Malley stated that the voters of Ward 1 will have the opportunity to <br /> certify this decision or go in another direction in 2023. He expressed confidence that Mr. Baker <br /> is capable of winning re-election and that the reasons to appoint him are compelling. <br /> Motion by President O'Malley, seconded by Vice President Litten to insert the name Kyle Baker <br /> into the blank in Resolution 2021-60. <br /> Discussion: Councilmember Rader spoke highly of the qualification and qualities of Laura <br /> Rodriguez-Carbone. He acknowledged that she would have made an excellent councilmember, <br /> however, he feels compelled to respect the message of the voters from Ward 1. <br /> Councilmember Shachner acknowledged that all of the applicants would have made great <br /> contributions to Council, however, in this case, Council has been guided by the voters of Ward 1. <br /> He thanked all applicants and noted their contributions. He expressed support for the motion and <br /> enthusiasm for working with Mr. Baker. <br /> Councilmember Kepple acknowledged the importance of representation and committed to <br /> continuing to work toward it. She remarked on the qualifications of Mr. Baker and noted that the <br /> voters spoke loudly in supporting him. She expressed enthusiasm for working with Mr. Baker. <br /> On the motion: A roll call vote was conducted as follows: <br /> Yeas: Bullock, Kepple, Litten, O'Malley, Rader, Shachner <br /> Nays: none <br /> Motion passed. Resolution 2021-60 amended to insert the name Kyle Baker. <br /> Motion by President O'Malley, seconded by Vice President Litten to recommend adoption of <br /> Resolution 2021-61 as amended. <br /> Discussion: Councilmember Bullock complimented all applicants, particularly those who took <br /> on the challenge of running for office. He acknowledged the importance of diversity and noted <br /> that there are many forms of leadership in the community and that he supports diversity in all <br /> those realms. He noted that the voices of Ward 1 voters were loudly supportive of Mr. Baker. <br /> On the motion: A roll call vote was conducted as follows: <br /> Yeas: Bullock, Kepple, Litten, O'Malley, Rader, Shachner <br /> Nays: none <br /> Motion passed. Resolution 2021-60 recommended for adoption as amended. <br /> President O'Malley wished congratulations to Mr. Baker, noting that he will follow in a great <br /> tradition of Ward 1 leaders and will do an excellent job. <br /> 3 <br />
