Chief Dunphy commended Public Works for his attention to the water flow calculations this year
and over the years. He stated that Engineer Papke is always responsive to the concerns and
request of the Fire Department.
Councilmember Rader asked how many streets have dangerously low hydrant flows.
Engineer Papke responded that it is a continuous cycle of maintenance and that 25-30% of
watermains are at or above their useful life. He noted that it would be impossible to replace all at
once and that ongoing maintenance is required. Engineer Papke explained that the city
repairs/replaces about 1 mile per year and there are about 90 miles of mains. He concluded that
the city will stay on track while maintaining that pace.
Clerk Bach explained that the resolution was not on tonight's docket because it was also referred
to Finance Committee. It will appear on the docket after it receives a recommendation from
Finance Committee.
Motion by Councilmember Rader, seconded by Councilmember Bullock to recommend adoption
of Resolution 2021-61.
