Councilmember Neff concurred with Prosecutor Miranda's assessment of using current law and <br /> stated she believes that the city should not be more restrictive than the state. She noted difficulty <br /> with enforcement of a law requiring masks. <br /> Captain Wilkins stated that the Police Department has been able to mediate social distancing <br /> issues in the past and would envision mediation being used as a tool to mitigate conflicts over <br /> masks. She also noted the difficulties that would come with enforcing a mask requirement. <br /> Councilmember Rader noted his support of the discussion and agreed with Councilmember <br /> Neff's sentiments. <br /> Ian Andrews of Lakewood Alive described how nuanced the face mask issue is and gave several <br /> examples of how business community members are dealing with it. <br /> Chairperson Kepple and Councilmember Litten discussed having conversation in the Health & <br /> Human Services Committee regarding mask wearing and the stigmatization/polarization of the <br /> issue. <br /> Councilmember Litten noted the need to collectively share the results of the meeting to the <br /> public to clear up any misinformation on the issue. Councilmember Bullock and Chairperson <br /> Kepple discussed methods and partnerships to get the word out about beneficial public health <br /> practices during the pandemic. Acting Director Milius noted that language would be a good <br /> incorporation into Small Business Taskforce messaging. <br /> Chairperson Kepple adjourned the meeting without objection. <br /> The meeting was adjourned at 7:03 p.m. <br />
