In response to a question, Ms. Brown identified the transient nature of Ward 4 residents and low <br /> voter turnout to be among the biggest challenges facing Ward 4. <br /> Councilmember Bullock applauded Ms. Brown for her role in the community-building efforts at <br /> Madison Park. Noting that Ms. Brown and others have made personal financial investments in <br /> this effort, he advocated for the City or for City Council to contribute financially. <br /> Councilmember Bullock asked Ms. Brown to share her thoughts on the downtown <br /> redevelopment plans. In the interest of time, Ms. Brown was asked to reply via email. <br /> Marissa Clark Interview <br /> Ms. Clark provided introductory remarks describing what attracted her to set down roots in <br /> Lakewood after living and working in multiple locations as a community organizer. She <br /> remarked that she was encouraged to apply and that she would bring a diverse perspective to <br /> Council. <br /> In response to a question about how she would build connections as a councilmember, Ms. Clark <br /> described her love of face-to-face canvassing and listening to people to build connections. <br /> Councilmember Rader asked Ms. Clark to describe how she might help move the city toward a <br /> clean energy future. <br /> In response, Ms. Clark spoke about previous organizing work that she did around the issue of <br /> climate justice. She explained that she would talk to residents in layperson terms and speak in a <br /> way that will help people connect these issues to their lives. <br /> In response to a question about the biggest issue facing Ward 4, Ms. Clark identified the transient <br /> nature of the residents and low voter turnout. She stated that she would like to address why <br /> residents may feel disconnected. <br /> In response to a question about whether she intends to run for the seat, Ms. Clark stated that <br /> whether appointed or not, she intends to speak with her neighbors to hear their concerns. She will <br /> run if she feels supported by neighbors and if resident needs are not being met. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Clark shared her thoughts on the city's approach to the downtown <br /> development and other development projects. She acknowledged that each development will <br /> have pros and cons as well as a particular impact on the tax base. She committed to evaluating all <br /> the data and listening to the community before taking a position. <br />
