Kate Anderson Foley Interview <br /> Ms. Foley delivered an opening statement in which she discussed her time in Chicago and her <br /> decision to return to the region in 2017. She described that she was drawn to Lakewood for its <br /> vibrancy, sidewalks, and all that the city has to offer. She expressed a desire to give back to the <br /> community and the ways in which she has gotten involved. She discussed her previous role as <br /> the leader of the Student Services Department with Lakewood City Schools and how this informs <br /> her understanding of Lakewood families and neighborhoods. She discussed her vision for a Ward <br /> 4 Councilmember. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Foley discussed her children's book Ida Finds Her Voice. She <br /> stated that she wrote it as a way to promote conversations on substantive topics for kids, schools, <br /> and families. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Foley described her work style as a systems thinker, whereby she <br /> can look at a topic discretely and then see a web of interconnections. She described how she put <br /> this to use as a member of the City's Resiliency Task Force. Additionally, she discussed her <br /> vision for the downtown development, stating that it ought to honor the past while also pivoting <br /> toward a new opportunity. She shared her vision for a development that is sustainable, has high <br /> quality community space, and that can attract resilient businesses to stay. She mentioned that she <br /> has gotten involved with the progress of the Studio W. 117 'redevelopment and pointed out that <br /> the Ward 4 representative has the unique responsibility of partnering with Cleveland. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Foley explained that her experience working in Lakewood City <br /> Schools has provided her excellent training in order to equitably represent the ward. She <br /> described how when serving the school community she would put together a tapestry of faith <br /> based, social services and cultural organizations to assist those in need and how she would do the <br /> same to serve the Ward 4 residents. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Foley proposed solutions to crime and perceived crime in the <br /> ward. She recommended making the ward officer more visible, investing in businesses, and <br /> holding absentee landlords accountable. <br /> In response to a question, Ms. Foley stated her intention to run for the Ward 4 seat. She spoke <br /> about how she has handled public scrutiny in the past, which she described as part of the life of a <br /> public servant. <br /> Mark Schneider Interview <br /> Mr. Schneider gave an opening statement highlighting the diversity, variety of resources, and <br /> welcoming nature of Ward 4. He detailed his 20-year career in public service, noting his <br /> experience as a prosecuting attorney and current position as Law Director of Parma Heights. <br /> Councilmember Bullock asked Mr. Schneider what he would like to see come out of the <br /> Lakewood Hospital redevelopment project.
