RESOLUTION NO.2022-21 BY:
<br />A RESOLUTION to recognize the month of June 2022 as Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual,
<br />Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Agender/Asexual+ (LGBTQIA+) Pride Month in the City of
<br />Lakewood.
<br />WHEREAS, this Council and City are committed to making Lakewood an inclusive, safe,
<br />and welcoming place for the LGBTQIA+ community and for all those who live, work, and visit
<br />our City; and,
<br />WHEREAS, all people, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, age, ability, race,
<br />color, religion, national origin, or physical challenges have the right to feel safe in our community,
<br />and live free of discrimination and harassment; and,
<br />WHEREAS, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer, Intersex,
<br />Agender/Asexual+ (LGBTQIA+) community has made significant contributions to the cultural,
<br />social, and economic successes of Lakewood; and,
<br />WHEREAS, the LGBTQIA+ community has undergone recent attacks from the Ohio
<br />legislature, producing bills that forbid LGBTQIA+ topics from being taught in schools and
<br />prohibiting various forms of health care for Transgender youth; and,
<br />WHEREAS, this Council and City are proud of their demonstrated efforts to support the
<br />LGBTQIA+ community in Lakewood, noting the passage of Ordinance 1-16 in 2016, which
<br />prohibits discrimination against LGBTQIA+ workers and residents in the workplace, housing,
<br />public accommodation, and in education, as well as banning the harmful practice of conversion
<br />therapy within Lakewood's borders; and,
<br />WHEREAS, this Council will continue to work to ensure full inclusion, safety, equality,
<br />and acceptance of the LGBTQIA+ community; now therefore
<br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO:
<br />Section 1. That this Council and Administration does hereby declare June 2022 as
<br />LGBTQIA+ Pride Month in the City of Lakewood and authorizes and directs the Pride Flag to be
<br />flown at City Hall for the month of June.
<br />Section 2. That this Council and Administration does hereby recognize the LGBTQIA+
<br />community's contributions to Lakewood success and expresses its commitment to further
<br />progress.
<br />Section 3. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning
<br />and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council,
<br />and that all such deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in such
<br />
