MINUTES OF THE HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE <br /> MARCH 7, 2022 <br /> CITY HALL AUDITORIUM <br /> Present: Councilmembers Kepple (Chair), Litten, Rader <br /> Also Present: Mayor George, Cuyahoga County Board of Health Commissioner Allan, Fire <br /> Chief Dunphy, Human Services Director Deputy Clerk Lascu, Clerk Bach taking minutes <br /> Call to Order: 5:32 p.m. <br /> Approval of the minutes of the Health& Human Services Committee held <br /> November 1, 2021. <br /> Motion made and seconded to approve the minutes of the November 1, 2021 meeting of the <br /> Health & Human Services Committee. All members voted in favor. Motion adopted. <br /> Communication from Councilmember Kepple regarding forthcoming COVID-19 <br /> update from CCBH. <br /> At the invitation of Chairperson Kepple, Cuyahoga County Board of Health Commissioner Terry <br /> Allan delivered remarks to the committee regarding the status of the COVID-19 pandemic. He <br /> characterized the present moment as a"pivot point,"noting that we have reached the end of the <br /> acute phase. He reminisced about being at Cleveland City Hall almost exactly two years ago <br /> when the first COVID cases were announced in Cuyahoga County. <br /> He provided the following statistics: <br /> • Lakewood vaccination rate for ages 5+ - 76.5% <br /> • County vaccination rate for ages 5+ - 63% <br /> • County booster rate—55% <br /> Commissioner Allan emphasized that 94% of individuals who were hospitalized and 95% of <br /> individuals who died of COVID were not fully vaccinated. He encouraged everyone to get their <br /> booster shot as an important preventive step. <br /> Commissioner Allan remarked that the County is experiencing an unprecedented low in cases at <br /> 41 per 100,000 and a 2.2% test positivity rate. At its worst point in the pandemic, the County had <br /> 1,300 cases per 100,000 and a 51%positivity rate at the Cleveland Clinic/UH campus. <br /> Commissioner Allan reported on the vaccination rate by race. He remarked that vaccine equity <br /> has been a priority and discussed the various strategies employed by CCBH for achieving this. <br /> He reported that there has been a steep drop in demand for vaccines and boosters and that it <br /> remains important to promote both. <br /> 1 <br />
