Communication from Councilmembers Baker, Bullock & Shachner regarding speed <br /> enforcement trends. (pg. 042) <br /> Motion by President Litten, seconded by Councilmember Bullock to receive and file and refer <br /> to Public Safety. <br /> Discussion: Councilmember Bullock expressed that the safety of the city regarding speed is a <br /> priority for the committee. He also suggested increasing enforcement for street design and <br /> policy. <br /> Councilmember Shachner suggested the inclusion of a public discussion to receive input from <br /> members of the community regarding speed and safety. <br /> President Litten mentioned a past fatality that occurred in Ward 3 at Franklin and Marlowe. He <br /> said that there has not been a serious accident at the intersection since, showing the positive <br /> work in regard to safety that the City has done. <br /> Councilmember Rader spoke in support of using citations to reduce speed in order to maintain <br /> the balance of keeping the City safe in regard to speed while also avoiding unnecessary police <br /> interaction. <br /> Vice President Kepple spoke about Councilmember Baker's mention of the potential of raised <br /> crosswalks to reduce speed and maintain Lakewood's walkable community. <br /> Councilmember Marx mentioned the frequent concerns Lakewood residents have regarding <br /> speed in the community and thanked the Council for the idea ofhaving a public discussion to <br /> receive more input from the community. <br /> On the motion to refer to Public Safety Committee, all members voted in favor. <br /> 14.
