Funeral leave may be extended at the discretion of the Chief of Fire, based on individual <br />circumstances. Such extra time will be utilized out of the member's paid leave accounts, <br />including holiday, compensatory time, sick leave and vacation. <br />11.02 Emergency Leave. <br />A. In the case of sudden or serious illness or emergency in the member's immediate family <br />which renders the employee physically unable to report to work, after exhausting every <br />effort to do so due to extraordinary circumstances, and upon securing approval from the <br />Chief of Fire or the designated representative, the member may be granted sufficient time <br />off out of his accounts including training time, holiday, vacation, compensatory time and <br />sick time, to aid the family and to complete any urgent business concerning the emergency. <br />Upon completion of said emergency, the member shall immediately return to duty. Final <br />authorization for the absence, and time granted from those accounts, is conditioned upon the <br />employee providing the City with acceptable verification of such absence. In the event a <br />member is denied emergency leave, said member shall have the right to appeal that decision <br />directly to the Chief of Fire. <br />11.03 Jury Duty and Court Leave. <br />A. A member called for jury duty or subpoenaed as a witness shall be granted a leave of absence <br />for the period of jury or witness service and will be compensated for the work absences <br />necessarily caused by the jury duty or witness duty. To be eligible for such pay, a member <br />must present verification of the call injury duty or witness duty. <br />B. A member called for jury duty shall be granted a leave of absence for the period of jury <br />service beginning twelve (12) hours prior to the starting time of the notice to report. Upon <br />completion of the jury duty, the member will report to their next regularly scheduled tour of <br />duty. <br />11.04 Military Leave. <br />A. A member shall be granted a leave of absence for military duty in accordance with state and <br />federal law. <br />
