16.02 If it is found that a leave of absence is not actually being used for the purpose for which it <br />was granted, the City may cancel the leave, direct the employee to return to work and impose <br />disciplinary action up to and including termination. The City has the right to refuse any request for <br />general leave of absence. <br />ARTICLE 17 <br />LEAVES OF ABSENCE <br />17.01 If a death occurs among members of the employee's immediate family (spouse, person <br />living as spouse, parent of minor child(ren), son, daughter, stepchild, mother, father, stepparent, <br />and any person acting in loco parentis), such employee member shall be granted ten (10) days <br />funeral leave, consecutive and contiguous to the death or memorial service, without loss of pay, <br />benefits, days off, holidays or vacation time, provided that such leave may be extended within the <br />discretion of the Chief of Police, based on individual circumstances. Employees will complete the <br />appropriate form in Precinct Manager. <br />17.02 If a death occurs among members of the employee's family of brother, sister, father-in- <br />law, mother-in-law, such employee member shall be granted five (5) days funeral leave, <br />consecutive and contiguous to the death or memorial service, without loss of pay, benefits, days <br />off, holidays or vacation time, provided that such leave may be extended within the discretion of <br />the Chief of Police, based on individual circumstances. Employees will complete the appropriate <br />form in Precinct Manager. <br />17.03 If a death occurs to a grandfather, grandmother, grandfather -in-law, grandmother -in-law, <br />grandson, granddaughter, brother-in-law or sister-in-law, niece or nephew, aunt, or uncle, such <br />employee member shall be granted two (2) days funeral leave, consecutive and contiguous to the <br />death or memorial service, without loss of pay, benefits, days off, holidays or vacation time. <br />Employees will complete the appropriate form in Precinct Manager. <br />17.04 Employee members, while serving upon a jury in any court of record, shall be paid at the <br />employee's regular salary rate for each of the employee's workdays during the period of time so <br />served. Time so served shall be deemed active and continuous service for all purposes. In addition <br />to the compensation provided for herein, any jury fees paid to the employee/juror shall be retained <br />by the employee. Employees will complete the appropriate form in Precinct Manager. <br />17.05 Employees shall be granted a leave of absence for military duty in accordance with State <br />and Federal laws and local ordinances. <br />ARTICLE 18 <br />SICK TIME - LEAVE WITH PAY <br />18.01 All employees shall earn sick time at the rate of 4.6 hours for every eighty (80) hours <br />actually worked and may accumulate such sick leave to nine hundred sixty (960) hours. <br />12 <br />
