14.09 Employees shall be permitted to accumulate a total of four hundred (400) working hours
<br />1 of vacation time. Vacation time acquired but not used in excess of four hundred (400) working
<br />hours shall be forfeited on December 3l' of each year.
<br />A. All personnel will be required to use at least eighty (80) vacation hours in every
<br />year.
<br />B. Any hours in excess of the hours to which an employee is entitled may be placed
<br />into a bank for accumulation.
<br />14.10 An employee who has notified the Chief of Police, in writing, of their date of retirement
<br />shall not be required to make a minimum vacation selection, as required in Section 14.09 above.
<br />14.11 Effective January 1, 2023, members shall receive credit for prior service with the State
<br />of Ohio or any political subdivision of the State of Ohio for the purposes of vacation hours
<br />earned. Verification of prior service credit shall be provided to the human resources department
<br />by the employee from the appropriate retirement system.
<br />14.12 Following the employee's selection of eighty (80) hours of vacation time, vacation time
<br />may be taken in one quarter (1/4) hour increments with the approval of the Shift Commander
<br />ARTICLE 15 SPECIAL LEAVES
<br />15.01 If a death occurs among members of the employee's family (spouse, person living as
<br />spouse, parent of minor child(ren), son, daughter, stepchild, mother, father, stepparent or person
<br />acting in loco parentis, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law), such employee shall be
<br />granted ten (10) days if on an eight (8) hour shift or seven (7) days if on a twelve (12) hour shift,
<br />of funeral leave, consecutive and contiguous to the death or memorial service, without loss of
<br />pay, benefits, days off, holidays or vacation time, provided that such leave may be extended
<br />within the discretion of the Chief of Police, based upon individual circumstances.
<br />15.02 If a death occurs among members of the employee's family of son-in-law, daughter-in-
<br />law, grandfather, grandmother, grandson, granddaughter, brother and sister-in-law, grandparents -
<br />in -law, such employee member shall be granted five (5) days if on an eight (8) hour shift or three
<br />(3) days if on a twelve (12) hour shift, of funeral leave, consecutive and contiguous to the death
<br />or memorial set -vice, without loss of pay, benefits, days off, holidays or vacation time, provided
<br />that such leave may be extended within the discretion of the Chief of Police, based upon
<br />individual circumstances.
<br />15.03 If a death occurs to an aunt, or uncle, niece or nephew such employee member shall be
<br />granted two (2) days of funeral leave, consecutive and contiguous to the death or memorial
<br />set -vice, without loss of pay, benefits, days off, holidays or vacation time. Employees will
<br />complete the appropriate form in Precinct Manager.
