Baker, Bullock, Kepple, Litten, <br />RESOLUTION 2023-04 BY: Marx, Rader, Shachner <br />A RESOLUTION to recognize the heroic efforts of the Lakewood Animal Safety & <br />Welfare Advisory Board (LASWAB), . the Citizen's Committee for the Lakewood Animal Shelter <br />(COLAS) and the Lakewood Police Department's Division of Animal Control to rescue dozens <br />of dogs from inhumane conditions and bring them one step closer to safe, stable homes. <br />WHEREAS, on December 19, 2022 the Lakewood Police Department executed a search <br />warrant to enter a residential home within the city in which 41 beagles were discovered to be <br />living in unsanitary and inhumane conditions; and, <br />WHEREAS, upon delivery of the dogs to the Lakewood Animal Shelter, Lakewood's <br />incredible volunteer network of animal advocates immediately mobilized a tremendous response <br />to the crisis; and, <br />WHEREAS, in the days and weeks that followed, volunteers from CCLAS and <br />LASWAB deployed their skills and experience to support Animal Shelter staff by providing <br />hands-on care to the dogs, purchasing equipment and supplies, and coordinating donations from <br />the community; and, <br />WHEREAS, this comprehensive and coordinated response from the Division of Animal <br />Control and its volunteer partners required that animal control officers and volunteers sacrifice <br />time away from friends and family during the busy holiday season; Now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO. <br />Section 1. That this Council hereby expresses its deepest appreciation to the Lakewood <br />Animal Safety &Welfare Advisory Board (LASWAB), the Citizen's Committee for the <br />Lakewood Animal Shelter (COLAS) and the Lakewood Police Department's Division of Animal <br />Control for their remarkable response to this crisis and for their unwavering dedication to the <br />welfare of these animals. <br />Section 2. This Council expresses its deepest appreciation to members of the Lakewood <br />community and surrounding communities for the supplies and funds they generously donated out <br />of care and concern for these animals in need. <br />Section 3. That the Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and directed to send a certified <br />copy of this resolution to the Lakewood Animal Safety &Welfare Board (LASWAB), the <br />Citizen's Committee for the Lakewood Animal Shelter (COLAS) and the Lakewood Police <br />Department's Division of Animal Control.' <br />Section 4. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning <br />and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, <br />and that all such deliberations of this Council and of any of its committees that resulted in such <br />formal action,' were in meetings open to the public, in compliance with all legal requirements. <br />
