Faker, Bullock, Kepple -, Litten, <br />Marx, Rader, Shachner <br />RESOLUTION 2023-17 <br />A RESOLUTION to join with states, municipalities, and other jurisdictions around the country <br />to designate April as Arab American Heritage Month in the City of Lakewood, Ohio by <br />celebrating the Arab American culture and paying tribute to the contributions of Arab <br />Americans. <br />WHEREAS, for over a century Arab Americans have been making valuable contributions <br />to virtually every aspect of American society; and, <br />WHEREAS, since first migrating to the Cleveland area over one hundred years ago, <br />people of Arab descent have shared their rich traditions with neighbors and friends, while also <br />setting examples as good citizens and public servants; and, <br />WHEREAS, Arab Americans brought to our region their resilient family values, strong <br />work ethic, dedication to education, and diversity of faith which have all added to the strength <br />and character of our communities; and, <br />WHEREAS, Arab Americans have faced challenges such as civil rights abuses, harmful <br />stereotyping, and bigotry which we must combat with education, awareness, and coming <br />together; and, <br />WHERAS, by recognizing the celebrating Arab Americans, the City of Lakewood hopes <br />to encourage and applaud the existing culture in Lakewood that opposes discrimination and <br />welcomes diversity. Now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO: <br />Section 1. That this Council does hereby declare the month of April 2023 as Arab <br />American Heritage Month in Lakewood, Ohio and calls on all citizens to help recognize and pay <br />tribute to the contributions of Arab Americans in our community. <br />Section 2. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning <br />and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, <br />and that all such deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in such <br />formal action, were in meetings open to the public, in compliance with all legal requirements. <br />Adopted: <br />Approved: <br />o �Itten, President of Council <br />'1 <br />i <br />Maureen M.
