Director Rancatore acknowledged the issues and explained that the city is exploring ways to improve the current agreement at the next opportunity. ORDINANCE 05-2023 - AN ORDINANCE to take effect immediately provided it receives the vote of at least two thirds of the members of Council, or otherwise to take effect at the earliest period allowed by law, amending Section 902.13 Summer Sprinkling Program of the Lakewood Codified Ordinances to expand the program st by one month. (1 read and referred to Finance 3/6/23) Chairman Shachner introduced Ordinance 05-2023, explaining that the ordinance proposes to expand the summer sprinkling program by one month. The program currently begins in July and the ordinance proposes that the program begin in June. Director Rancatore explained that the summer sprinkling program was designed to save users money on their rates in the summer months, when water usage may be higher due to watering lawns and filling pools. For users who sign up for the program, the sewer portion of the bill is adjusted to an average based on usage from January-April. The summer sprinkling program is currently estimated to save rate-payers approximately $50.00 per year. The proposed change would increase the saving to $60.00 per year. Several councilmembers expressed support for this change as a way to support residents who are caring for their yards. Director Rancatore explained that the change was prompted by popular request.
