Chairman Baker and Chief Kaucheck went over the trends regarding CIT training, traffic and <br />parking enforcement, and new recruits. <br />Chairman Baker expressed his appreciation for police presence on the streets of Lakewood. <br />Chief Kaucheck explained that increased police manpower has improved speed enforcement in <br />school zones. The new recruits to the Police Department have shown motivation in their <br />positions. <br />Chief Kaucheck explained the legal action that may be taken against the County to get <br />reimbursed for the costs of housing prisoners with misdemeanor sentences. Law Director Vargo <br />went over the process of giving the County a formal demand in a professional manner for the <br />funds. <br />Chairman Baker asked about staffing regarding dispatch. Chief Kaucheck explained a six-month <br />study that is being completed that can potentially switch to 12-hour shifts for dispatchers. <br />Staffing issues caused an increase in overtime hours in 2022. <br />Chairman Baker briefly mentioned the potential for changes to be made with the Police <br />Department regarding school guard procedures. <br />Councilmembers Shachner, Marx, and Rader thanked Chief Kaucheck for his service. <br />Councilmember Rader asked about the low numbers regarding traffic crash data. Chief <br />Kaucheck confirmed that there has been a gradual drop in these numbers over the last four years. <br />Chairman Baker recognized and thanked Lakewood’sward officers for their work around the <br />city. <br />Without objection, Chair Baker adjourned the meeting at 7:10 p.m. <br />2 <br /> <br /> <br />
