Through discussion with the Law Department it was clarified that adoption of Ordinance 20- <br />2023 constitutes final approval for the administration to move forward with the sales of the six <br />properties. <br />Director Leininger explained that the city will work with a realtor to develop an advertisement <br />and process for submitting offers. <br />Councilmember Shachner requestedthat it be made clear in advertisements that the City may <br />consider factors other than price, and is in a position to accept not the highest offer, but the best <br />overall offer. <br />At the invitation of the Chair, councilmembers provided additional feedback on the legislation. <br />Councilmember Baker remarked that while affordable housing is a priority, that these particular <br />homes, given their size, age, and tax burden may not all be well suited to serve as affordable <br />housing. He stated that he was comfortable with the administration’s plan to move forward and <br />acknowledged the need to act quickly and negotiate upon receiving offers. <br />Councilmember Rader expressed agreement with the administration’s plan and acknowledged <br />the high property taxes on the homes. He advocated for making accommodations for existing <br />tenants at the properties. <br />Councilmember Marx expressed concern that low-moderate income families could truly afford to <br />maintain these homes with current mortgage rates. She also advocated for making sure the City <br />gets a fair price for the properties. <br />Councilmember Shachner stated that he prioritizes affordable housing over replenishing the <br />City’s Property Acquisition Fund.
