DocuSign Envelope ID: 92860B03-367C-49AA-BA95-OFDE6BFCF177 <br />RESOLUTION 2024-16 BY: RADER, KEPPLE, SHACHNER, MARX <br />STREBIG, BAKER, BULLOCK <br />A RESOLUTION to join with states, municipalities, and other jurisdictions around the country to <br />designate April as Arab American Heritage Month in the City of Lakewood, Ohio by celebrating the <br />Arab American culture and paying tribute to the contributions of Arab Americans. <br />WHEREAS, for over a century Arab Americans have been making valuable contributions to <br />virtually every aspect of American society; and, <br />WHERAS, the state of Ohio has one of the fastest growing Arab American populations in the <br />country; and, <br />WHEREAS, since first migrating to the Cleveland area over one hundred years ago, people of <br />Arab descent have shared their rich traditions with neighbors and friends, while also setting examples as <br />good citizens and public servants; and, <br />WHEREAS, Arab Americans brought to our region their resilient family values, strong work <br />ethic, dedication to education, and diversity of faith which have all added to the strength and character <br />of our communities; and, <br />WHEREAS, amidst the current crisis in the Middle East, it is especially important to dispel <br />harmful misconceptions and promote education, awareness, and coming together; and, <br />WHERAS, by recognizing the celebrating Arab Americans, the City of Lakewood hopes to <br />encourage and applaud the existing culture in Lakewood that opposes discrimination and welcomes <br />diversity. Now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, 'OHIO: <br />Section 1. That this Council does hereby declare the month of April 2024 as Arab American <br />Heritage Month in Lakewood, Ohio and calls on all citizens to help recognize and pay tribute to the <br />contributions of Arab Americans in our community. <br />Section 2.
