458O by Quinn <br /> <br /> AN ORDINANCE authorizing the submission to a vote of the electors of the <br />City of Lakewood of an amendment to the Charter of the City of Lakewood providing <br />for a limitation upon taxes levied without a vote of the people <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAK~.~OOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That there be submitted to the electors of the City of Lakewood <br />at a special election to' be held~T~esday, November 2nd 1948, the followfng proposed <br />amendment to the Charter of the oity of Lakewood: <br /> <br />That ArtiCle XV of %he Charter of~ the City of Lakewood be amended and <br />Supplemented by the enac~tment of new Section 31 of said Charter, reading, <br />as follews~ -' <br /> <br />"Section 31. Taxes may be levied without a vote of the people for the <br />current operating expenses of the City during the year 1949 and each <br />calendar year thereafter upon the tax duplicates for the year 194§ and <br />each calendar year thereafter, but no such tax shall be levied at a rate <br />exceeding by more than five and two-tenths (5.2) mills, the rate for such <br />purposes_within the constitutional limitation allocated to the City on <br />the 1938 tax duplicate._ - .... <br /> <br />Except as above stated, all power totax shall be as defined and ltm~ted 'by <br />the Constitution and Statutes of the State of Ohio. <br /> <br />This section shsll take effect and be in force fmmediately upon its adoptio: <br /> <br /> Section 2. That said proposed amendment shall be submitted by ballot to th: <br />electors of the City of Lakewood at a special election to be held T~esday, November 2 <br />1948 and if such proposed amendment is approved by a majority of the electors voting <br />thereon~ it shall become a part of the Charter of the City of Lakewood, effective <br />as of the date of the adoption thereof. <br /> <br /> ~ S~ctioni3. That the Clerk of the Council is hereby authorized and <br />directed to certify a copy of this Ordinance to the Board of Elections of 0uyahoga <br />Countyl Ohio~ immediately upon the passage of this ordinance, and to mail, not less <br />than thirty (30) days prior to the date of such election, a copy of the proposed <br />amendment to each elector whose name appears upon the poll or registration books of <br />the last regular or general election held% in the City of Lakewood. <br /> <br /> Section 4.
