Salmon, Sinagra, Usher, <br />Brockman, Chinnock, Magnotto, McBride <br /> <br /> AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE authorizing the Mayor of the City of Lakewood <br />to enter into an agreement with colleges in the Greater Cleveland Area to hire <br />Legislative Assistants for the Council of the City Of Lakewood under the College <br />Work-Study Program funded by the Federal Government. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the College Work-Study Program has been established by the <br />Federal Government to create job opportunities and provide a modest level of <br />financial assistance to college students who demonstrate a need for such assis- <br />tance, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, such Work-Study Program is funded in part by the Federal <br />Government and administered by Financial Aid Officers of the colleges involved, <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, such students are permitted to work 40 hours per week during <br />the summer and 15 to 20 hours per week during the academic year, and under the <br />federally funded program 75% to 80% of such students' salary is paid by the <br />Federal Government, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, not only will such .program provide an excellent form of <br />financial assistance to needy students but also will reinforce such students' <br />fOrmal education through practical application, while at the same time providing <br />a valuable service to the community at minimal expense, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, th%s Ordinance constitutes an emergency measure providing for <br />the immediate preservation of the public health, safety and welfare and for the <br />usual daily operation of a municipal department, and for the further reason that <br />such assistance to the members of the. Council of the City of Lakewood should be <br />provided at the earliest possible time; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED. BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br />Section 1. That the Mayor of the City of Lakewood be and he is hereby <br />authorized to enter into an agreement with colleges in the Greater Cleveland Area <br />which qualify under the Federal College Work-Study Program for the hiring of not <br />more than two (2) qualified college students, including graduate professional <br />students under said program, to act as Legislative Assistants to the Council of <br />the City of Lakewood. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That each such student shall be employed during the <br />academic year only and for not more than twenty (20) hours per week at a salary <br />not to exceed Three Dollars and Fifty Cents ($3.50) per hour for each. such student, <br />of which amount 75% to 80% will be paid by the Federal Government. <br /> <br /> Section 3. That this Ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency <br />measure for the reasons stated in the preamble hereof and provided it receives <br />the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members elected to Council, it shall <br />take effect and be in force immediately upon its adopti~.~i, ' / ' <br /> n and approval by the <br />Mayor.r ~~.~.
