PLEASE SUBSTITUTE FOR ORDINANCE <br />~!!~!~£FERRED TO FINANCE COMMITTEE <br /> ~1~ a U RY 17, 1983, AND PLACED <br /> ~ FIRST READING MARCH 7, 1983. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 2-83 <br /> <br />BY: Brown, CHinnock, Gallagher, Graham, <br /> McBride, Salmon, Wendling <br /> <br /> AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE to supplement the Administrative Code of the <br />Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood by enacting new Section 149.21 to <br />provide for the payment of tuition for college courses taken by annual salaried <br />employees with specified approval. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this erdinance constitutes an emergency providing for the im- <br />mediate preservation of the public health, safety and welfare and for the usual <br />daily operation of a municipal department; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That the Administrative Code of the Codified Ordinances of <br />the City of Lakewood shall be and the same is hereby supplemented by enacting new <br />Section 149.22 to read as follows: <br /> <br />149.22 TUITION REIMBURSEMENT: ANNUAL SALARIED EMPLOYEES. <br /> <br /> (a) With the approval of the Mayor, Department Director, and the <br />, Personnel Administrator, annual salaried employees who have been <br /> employed by the City for a minimum of one year, excluding members <br /> of the Divisions of Police and Fire, may take accredited col- <br /> lege courses which have a direct relationship to the employee's <br /> currently assigned position. Employees shall be rein~ursed <br /> tuition expenses by the City in accordance with the following <br /> schedule: <br /> <br />GRADE RECEIVED <br /> <br />PERCENT OF TUITION REIMBURSEMENT <br /> <br />A lOO& <br />B 75% <br />C 50% <br />D or lower No reimbursement <br /> <br />(b) The Director of Finance is authorized to pay the tuition <br />expenses in accordance with the above schedule upon completion <br />of the course by the employee, provided said employee agrees, <br />in writing, to refund the reimbursement to the City should the <br />employee terminate his or her employment within one year sub- <br />sequent to the date of reimbursement. <br /> <br /> Section 2. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this <br />Council concerning and relating to the passage of this ordinance were adopted in <br />an open meeting of this Council, and that all such deliberations of this Council <br />and of any of its committees that resulted in such formal action were in <br />meetings open to the public, in compliance with all legal requirements including <br />Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code. <br /> <br /> Section 3. That this ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency <br />measure for the reasons stated in the preamble hereof and proVided it receives <br />the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members of Council, it shall take <br />effect and be in force immediately upon its adoption and approval by the Mayor; <br />otherwise it shall take effect and be in force afte~ the earliest period allowed <br />by law. <br /> <br />Adopted: <br /> <br />, <br /> <br /> <br />
