ORDINANCE NO. 8-96 PLEASE SUBSTITUTE FOR ORDINANCE NO. 8-96 PLACED ON 1st Reading & REFERRED TO COMMITTEE OF TtfE WItOLE 3/20/96; PLACED ON 2nd READING 4/1 BY: Boscia, Corrigan, George, Roth, Seelie, Smith AN ORDINANCE fixing the salaries of the Members of the Council of the City of Lakewood commencing January 1, 1998, for Council Members elected At Large and commencing January I, 2000, for Council Members elected from each Ward. WHEREAS, Article III, Section 3, of the Amended Charter of the City of Lakewood provides, in substance, that the salaries of the members of CoUncil may be changed by ordinance providing such ordinance is adopted not less than thirty (30) days prior to the final date fixed by law for the filing of nominating petitions by candidates for the office of Council Member of the City of Lakewood, and WHEREAS, the next regular municipal election at which the people will vote for candidates for the office of Council Member of the City of Lakewood will be held during the month of November 1997, and WHEREAS, the Charter of the City of Lakewood provides that no salary increase or decrease shall take effect with respect to any Member of Council during the term for which the Member is elected, and WHEREAS, this Council determines that it is in the best interests of the City that the salary of the Members of Council be increased from its present amount; now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO Section I. Commencing January 1, 1998, the salaries of the Council Member elected At Large in the City shall be $I0,000.00 per annura, payable in equal installments every two (2) weeks. Section 2. Commencing January I, 2000, the salaries of the Council Member representing each of the four Wards in the City shall be $10,000.00 per annum, payable in equal installments every two (2) weeks. Section 3. At the earliest time allowed by the Amended Charter of the City of Lakewood, the President of Council shall be paid an additional $1,000.00 per annum, payable in equal installments every two (2) weeks. Section 4. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning and relating to the passage of this ordinance were adopted in an open meeting of this council, and that all such deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in such formal actions, were in meetings open to the public, in compliance with all legal requirements. Section 5. That this ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and 'after the earliest period allowed by law, and Ordinance No. 55-78 adopted July 5, 1978, shall be and the same is hereby repealed on the respective dates the salaries provided for herein go into effect.
