PLACED ON 1ST READING ~ REFERRED TO THE RULES <br />ORDINANCES COMMITTEE on 10/19/98. <br /> PLACED ON 2ND READING ON 12/7/98. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 56-98 BY: Corrigan, Flannery, George, <br /> Roth, Seelie, Skindell, Smith <br /> <br />'\ <br /> <br /> AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE to amend Section 1304.01 of Chapter 1304 of <br />the Building Code of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood providing for <br />standards for electrical materials and installations. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the 1996 National Electrical Code has been amended, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the citizens of the City of Lakewood that <br />Chapter 1304 of the Building Code of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood <br />be amended to the 1999 National Electrical Code, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this ordinance constitutes an emergency measure providing for the <br />preservation of the public health, safety and welfare, for the reason that the National <br />Electrical Code, as amended, will go into effect on January 1, 1999, and such <br />amendments should be adopted and become effective by that date; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE It ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That Section 1304.01 of Chapter 1304 of the Building Code of the <br />Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood now reading as follows: <br /> <br />1304.01 ADOPTION; IDENTITY AND PURPOSE. <br /> <br /> Pursuant to the provisions of Ohio R.C. 731.231, the National Electrical Code, <br />being particularly the 1996 edition thereof, designated ANSI/NFPA No. 70-1996, is <br />hereby adopted by the City and incorporated by reference as a part of the Building <br />Code of the City of Lakewood as if fully set out herein, except such provisions as are, <br />hereinafter amended, enacted or deleted. The purpose of a National Electrical Code as <br />adopted herein is the practical safeguarding of persons, buildings and dwellings, and <br />their contents from hazards arising from the use of electricity for heat, light and power <br />and for other purposes. <br /> <br />shall be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />1304.01 . ADOPTION; IDENTITY AND PURPOSE. <br /> <br /> Pursuant to the provisions of Ohio R.C. 731.231, the National Electrical Code, <br />being particularly the 1999 edition thereof, designated ANSI/NFPA No. 70-1999, is <br />hereby adopted by the City and incorporated by reference as a part of the Building <br />Code of the City of Lakewood as if fully set out herein, except such provisions as are, <br />hereinafter amended, enacted or deleted. That this ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency <br />measure for the reasons stated in the preamble hereof and provided it receives the <br />affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members elected to Council, it shall take effect and <br />be in force immediately upon its adoption and approval by the Mayor; otherwise, it shall <br />take effect and be in force after the earliest period allowed by law. <br /> <br /> <br />
