<br />Placed on 1st Reading & Referred <br />to the Committee of the Whole <br />4j21j08} ~~RE.igJp$/d',f5/08. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 54-08 <br /> <br />BY: Antonio, Bullock, Butler, <br /> <br />Dever, Madigan, Powers. <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE to take effect immediately provided it receives the <br />affirmative vote of at least five (5) members elected to Council, otherwise, it <br />shall take effect and be in force after the earliest period allowed by law, to enact <br />new Section 135.15, Part-Time Police Officers within the Codified Ordinances of <br />the City of Lakewood for the purpose of creating the position of Part-Time police <br />officer. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Whereas, Part-time police officers will allow the City to supplement full- <br />time officers by taking on tasks such as transporting or guarding prisoners, <br />directing and controlling traffic where necessary, delivery of subpoena, <br />summons and warrants allowing full-time officers to concentrate on enforcement <br />and response to calls; and <br /> <br />WEHREAS, Part-time police officers are used by several other local <br />communities to effectively increase police presence; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Hiring of part-time police officers is a cost effective way to <br />improve police presence and service within City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this Council by a vote of at least five (5) members elected <br />thereto determines that this ordinance is an emergency measure, and that this <br />ordinance shall take effect at the earliest date possible as set forth in ARTICLE <br />III, SECTONS 10 and 13 of the SECOND AMENDED CHARTER OF THE CITY OF <br />LAKEWOOD, and that it is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public <br />property, health and safety, and to provide for the usual daily operation of <br />municipal departments in that the addition of part-time officers should be made <br />are necessary to fill immediate staffing needs within the Division of Police. Now <br />Therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO <br /> <br />Section 1. That new Section 135.15, Part-Time Police Officers, of the <br />Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood, is hereby enacted to read as <br />follows: <br />
