PLACED ON 1ST READING & REFERRED TO THE <br />COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE 11/17/14. <br />REPORTED OUT.- ON,:.PLAGEp ON 2ND-READING, <br />ORDINANCE NO. 38 -14 & RECO13fNDED FOR ADOPTION 12]I/14.` <br />Anderson, Bullock, Juris, <br />Madigan, Marx, Nowlin, O'Leary. <br />AN ORDINANCE to establish the salary of the office of Council pursuant to Article III, <br />Section 3 of the Second Amended Charter, not to take effect during the current term of any <br />councilmember. <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Article XI, Section 7 of the Charter, the Civil Service Commis- <br />sion has presented its recommendations to City Council recommending that the salary of the of- <br />fice of each Councilmember be increased to the sum of $13,000.00 per year; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Article III, Section 3 of the Second Amended Charter of the City <br />of Lakewood, City Council shall accept, reject or modify the recommendations of the Civil Ser- <br />vice Commission as they relate to the salary of the office of Councilmember; and <br />WHEREAS, the Commission found that Lakewood's councilmembers have been consist- <br />ently paid less than their peers in cities with similar demographics and fiscal resources, and the <br />data support such a finding; and <br />WHEREAS, the salaries for councilmembers have not been increased in more than three <br />decades; and <br />WHEREAS, increasing the salary of the office of Councilmember to be commensurate <br />with those who seine municipalities with comparable annual budgets and staffing levels is im- <br />portant to attract excellent candidates for these offices well into the future; now, therefore, <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO: <br />Section 1. Pursuant to the provisions of Article III, Section 3 of the Second Amended <br />Charter of the City of Lakewood, the salary of the office of Councilmember is hereby increased <br />to the sum of $13,000.00 per year, effective January 1, 2016 for ward councilmembers and Janu- <br />ary 1, 2018 for at -large councilmembers. <br />Section 2. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning <br />and relating to the passage of this ordinance were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, <br />and that all such deliberations of the Council and of any of its committees that resulted in such <br />formal action were in meetings open to the public in compliance with all legal requirements. <br />Adopted: �) L r e.,._ 4, G 2 <br />Approved: <br />7 / <br />President of Council / <br />Clerk of Q uncil c) <br />r <br />Mayor <br />
