<br />EMERGENCY RESOLUTION OF CONGRATULATIONS
<br />
<br />Rt. Rev. Abbot Theodore G. Kojis, O.S.B.
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, On May 1, 1961~ Rt. Rev. Abbot Theodore G~ Kojis
<br />will celebrate the 25th anniversary of his ordination to the
<br />priesthood, and,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Born in Slovakia, Reverend Kojis, came to this
<br />country at an early age and after receiving a high school education
<br />at St. Procopius Academy in Lisle, Illinois and attending two years
<br />at St. Procopius College, he enteredthe novitiate at St. John's
<br />Abbey in Collegeville, Minnesota in 1929, and,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, In 1946, Reverend Kojis was elected the second Abbot
<br />of St. Andrew's Abbey; the youngest Benedictine prelate of abbatial
<br />rank in the world, and,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Devoting much time and energy to needy Slovaks in
<br />exile, Reverend Kojis has endeared himself not only to all of the
<br />persons in the United Stated with whom he has had contact, but all
<br />the hundreds of Slovak exiles who have sought his counsel and
<br />assistance, and~
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Active in the First Catholic Slovak Union, First
<br />Catholic Slovak Ladies' Union, Slovak Catholic Sokol, Pennsylvania
<br />Slovak Catholic Union, Slovak Catholic Federation, the Slovak League
<br />of America and the Knights of Columbus, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, This Council desires to join with the many thousands
<br />of persons extending to Reverend Kojistheircongratulations on this
<br />noteworthy occasion.
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY
<br />OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO:
<br />
<br /> Section 1. That the Council of the City of Lakewood on behalf
<br />of the individual members thereof and on behalf of ail of the citizens
<br />of Lakewood hereby extends to the Rt. Rev. Abbot Theodore G. Kojis,
<br />O.S.B., its Warmest congratulations and wishes him many more years of
<br />service to God and His people.
<br />
<br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and he hereby is
<br />requested to transmit a copy of this resolution to the Rt. Rev. Abbot
<br />Theodore G. Kojis, O.S.B. at St. Benedictine Church, 2940 East Blvd.,
<br />Cleveland, Ohio.
<br />
<br /> Section 3. That this resolution is hereby declared to be an
<br />emergency measure and provided it receives the affirmative vote of
<br />two-thirds of all members elected to Council, it shall take effect
<br />and be in force immediately upon its passage and approval by the
<br />Mayor.
