RESOLUTION NO. 4375 BY: Messrs. Gaydos, Huffman, Usher, Ward, Bennett. AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION memorializing the Secretary of Health and Welfare of the United States, the Governor of the State of Ohio, the Attorney General of the State of Ohio, the President of the Cuyahoga County Mayor's and City Manager.s' Association and members of the General Assembly from Cuyahoga County to take im- mediate action to protest the pollution of Lake Erie. natural WHEREAS, Lake Erie is the most valuable/resource and physi- cal asset of the Cleveland Metropolitan area, and WHEREAS, sanitary and industrial pollution entering Lake Erie has seriously and adversely despoiled the natural condition of Lake Erie, has reduced its life supporting qualities, result- ing in loss of fish, bird and other animal life, has reduced its value for commercial and industrial use, and has reduced its aesthetic and recreational values, and WHEREAS, if the present rate of pollution continues un- abated, Lake Erie will be permanently ruined and devoid of life supporting qualities and the Cleveland Metropolitan area and the State of Ohio will have lost an irreplaceable natural resource. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: Section 1. This Council hereby expresses its grave con- cern over the damage and loss which has already been suffered from the unabated pollution and despoliation of Lake Erie. Section 2. This Council pledges that on behalf of the people it represents and for the benefi~ of the citizens of the Cleveland Metropolitan area this City will take every feasible step to reduce, abate, prevent and enjoin any industrial and sanitary pollution from this City into waters contributory to Lake Erie. Section 3. All other municipalities, responsible civil authorities, public opinion media and civic organization are hereby respectfully urged to employ all feasible methods towards the end of abating and preventing'~the continued pollution of Lake Erie. Section 4. The United States Secretary of Health and Welfare, the Governor and Attorney General of the State of Ohio are hereby respectfully urged, to immediately enforce the present laws for the prevention and prohibition of pollution into the waters of the State of Ohio. Section 5. The Clerk of Council is hereby directed to forward certified copies of this resolution to the Secretary of Health and Welfare of the United States, the Governor of the State of Ohio, the Attorney General of the State of Ohio, the President of the Cuyahoga County Mayor's and G~y Managers' Associ- ation and members of the General Assembly fram Cuyahoga County. Section 6. That this resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure for the reasons stated in the preamble hereof and provided it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all
