Gaydos, Huffman, <br /> Usher, Ward, <br /> Bennett. <br /> <br /> AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION memorializing the Secretary of <br />Health and Welfare of the United States, the Governor of the State <br />of Ohio, the Attorney General of the State of Ohio, the President <br />of the Cuyahoga County Mayor's and City Manager.s' Association and <br />members of the General Assembly from Cuyahoga County to take im- <br />mediate action to protest the pollution of Lake Erie. <br /> natural <br /> WHEREAS, Lake Erie is the most valuable/resource and physi- <br />cal asset of the Cleveland Metropolitan area, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, sanitary and industrial pollution entering Lake <br />Erie has seriously and adversely despoiled the natural condition <br />of Lake Erie, has reduced its life supporting qualities, result- <br />ing in loss of fish, bird and other animal life, has reduced its <br />value for commercial and industrial use, and has reduced its <br />aesthetic and recreational values, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, if the present rate of pollution continues un- <br />abated, Lake Erie will be permanently ruined and devoid of life <br />supporting qualities and the Cleveland Metropolitan area and the <br />State of Ohio will have lost an irreplaceable natural resource. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, <br />STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. This Council hereby expresses its grave con- <br />cern over the damage and loss which has already been suffered <br />from the unabated pollution and despoliation of Lake Erie. <br /> <br /> Section 2. This Council pledges that on behalf of the <br />people it represents and for the benefi~ of the citizens of the <br />Cleveland Metropolitan area this City will take every feasible <br />step to reduce, abate, prevent and enjoin any industrial and <br />sanitary pollution from this City into waters contributory to <br />Lake Erie. <br /> <br /> Section 3. All other municipalities, responsible civil <br />authorities, public opinion media and civic organization are <br />hereby respectfully urged to employ all feasible methods towards <br />the end of abating and preventing'~the continued pollution of Lake <br />Erie. <br /> <br /> Section 4. The United States Secretary of Health and <br />Welfare, the Governor and Attorney General of the State of Ohio <br />are hereby respectfully urged, to immediately enforce the present <br />laws for the prevention and prohibition of pollution into the <br />waters of the State of Ohio. <br /> <br /> Section 5. The Clerk of Council is hereby directed <br />to forward certified copies of this resolution to the Secretary of <br />Health and Welfare of the United States, the Governor of the <br />State of Ohio, the Attorney General of the State of Ohio, the <br />President of the Cuyahoga County Mayor's and G~y Managers' Associ- <br />ation and members of the General Assembly fram Cuyahoga County. <br /> <br /> Section 6. That this resolution is hereby declared to be <br />an emergency measure for the reasons stated in the preamble hereof <br />and provided it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all <br /> <br /> <br />
