House <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. ~ BY: ~ <br /> <br /> AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION memorializi~ ' ~peaker of the <br />of RepresentatiVes, of the Congress of the United States~ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, <br />United States is <br />citizens and, <br /> <br />freedom to think and conduct our affairs in the <br />the most highly prized possession of individual <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a criminal conspiracy, communism, exists in this <br />country. Through well-financed propaganda and subversive acts, <br />it attempts to undermine our institutions and government. If un- <br />restrained, it can seriously affect the lives of citizens of this <br />country, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, if the communistic pollution continues and is not <br />exposed, challenged, and eliminated our country can be destroyed <br />and our freedoms taken away. <br /> <br /> RESOLVED BY T~ COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, CUYAHOGA <br />COUNTY, OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. This Council hereby expresses its grave con- <br />cern over the attack that is building up to eliminate the House <br />Committee on Un-American Activities. <br /> <br /> Section 2. This Council pledges, on behalf of the people <br />it represents and for the benefit of the citizens of Lakewood, <br />that it will take every feasible step to combat subversion under- <br />mining our country. <br /> <br /> Section 3. By exposing the communists' activities and <br />initiating legislation protecting against the same, the House <br />Committee on Un-American Activities is a major safeguard against <br />the sinister operations of this conspiracy that is jeopardizing <br />our national security and survival. The Committee's abolition, <br />would prove embarrassingly imprudent and an act of crippling ig- <br />norance on our part. This would grant the communists the freedom <br />to destroy freedom. Therefore, the retention of the Committee <br />is indispensable to preserve our constitutional freedom. <br /> <br /> Section 4. The Congress of the United States and all <br />other legislative branches of State and Local government are <br />urged to direct the executive branches of all these levels of <br />government to immediately enforce laws for the prevention and <br />prohibition of the destruction of our freedoms. Public opinion <br />media and civic organizations are hereby respectfully urged to <br />employ all feasible methods towards the prevention of the con- <br />tinued mind pollution furthered by the communist conspiracy. <br /> <br /> Section 5. The Clerk of Council is hereby directed to <br />forward certified copies of this Resolution to the Speaker of the <br />House.~of Representatives, United States Congress, Attorney General <br />of the'United States, the Governor of the State of Ohio, the <br />Attorney General of the State of Ohio, and the Mayor of the City <br />of Lakewood. <br /> <br /> Section 6. That this Resolution is hereby declared to be <br />an emergency measure for the reasons stated in the preamble there- <br />of and provided it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds <br />of the votes of Council, it shall take effect and be in force im- <br />mediately upon its adoption and approval by the Mayor. <br /> <br />Adopted: <br /> <br />President <br /> <br />Approved:~U~~ ......... ~~ <br /> Cle'rk <br /> <br /> Ma~or <br /> <br /> <br />
