RESOLUTION NO. 4729 BY: Messrs. Graber, Huffman, Kelley, <br /> USher, Ward, Wendling, Gaydos <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION expressing the sympathy of the Council and the Administration of <br />the City of Lakewood to the family of the late James E. McPike, Sergeant, <br />U. S. Army. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The Council of the City of Lakewood desires to honor the memory of <br />our brave young men serving in Vietnam who have unselfishly sacrificed their <br />lives for the freedom of mankind, and whose passing should not go unnoticed <br />by the residents of our cormmunity, and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the parents of James E. McPike are residents of the City of Lakewood <br />and his wife Margaret was a teacher in the Lakewood School System, and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, James E. McPike attended Franklin Elementary School, Emerson Junior <br />High School, was graduated from Lakewood High School in 1962, and received <br />a degree in Business Administration from Ohio State University iq 1966, and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, James E. McPike was sent to Vietnam March 25, 1969, was ~ounded in <br />April and was the receipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star and ~was <br />killed while on patrol with the Ninth Infantry Division near Dong Tam on <br />July 19, 1969, and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, James E. McPike was a loyal and patriotic young man who chose to <br />serve his country during wartime, and deserves our gratitude and respect for <br />making the ultimate sacrifice; now, therefore: <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br />Section Io That this entire Council and the Administration honors the memory <br />of James E. McPike, and extends deepest sympathy to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. <br />Roland E. McPike, 1426 Wyandotte Avenue, to his wife Margaret, a graduate <br />student at the University of Colorado, and his brothers Roland Jr., and Thomas, <br />and sister, Joanne. <br /> <br />Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and <br />directed to present a certified copy of this resolution to the family of <br />James E.
