RESOLUTION NO. 5085 <br /> <br />BY: Messrs. Brockmsn, Chinnock, Graber, <br /> McBride, Sinagra, Usher <br /> <br /> AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION expressing the enthusiastic support of the <br />Council of the City of Lakewood of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit <br />Authority and to encourage all residents of the City of Lakewood, as well as <br />all persons residing in Cuyahoga County to vote for an additional one (1) <br />percent sales tax and use tax at an election to be held July 22, 1975, such <br />funds to be used for all transit purposes of the Greater Cleveland Regional <br />Transit Authority. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the problems and opportunities in public transportation <br />can best be solved and acted upon by a Regional Transit Authority, which <br />transcends local government boundary lines, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the regionalization of the Transit System in Greater Cleveland <br />is in the best interests of the residents of this community, in efficiently <br />providing improved overall public transportation service, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority is the <br />authority duly organized and existing for the purpose of acquiring and/or <br />coordinating and maintaining public transportation in this County, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is necessary to provide funds for the purposes of the <br />Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, with the proposed means of <br />acquiring such funds being the adoption of an additional one (1) percent sales <br />tax, to be voted on by the residents of this County on July 22, 1975, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Resolution constitutes an emergency measure providing <br />for the iramediate preservation of the public health, safety and welfare and <br />further by reason of the necessity to make knowm,the support of this Council <br />for the Creater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority's program at the earliest <br />time possible~ and to encourage the voters to support ~such program by voting <br />for the additional sales and use tax charge; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That the Council of the City of Lakewood enthusiastically <br />supports the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority and its purposes of <br />acquiring and/or coordinating, maintaining and improving transit services in <br />this County and all residents of the City of Lakewood, as well as all people <br />residing in Cuyahoga County, are urged to support the purposes of the Greater <br />Cleveland Regional Transit Authority by voting for an additional one (1) percent <br />sales and use tax at a special election to be held on July 22, 1975. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency <br />measure for the reasons stated in the preamble hereof and provided it receives <br />the affirmative vote Of two-thirds of all member~ected to ~u~il, it shall <br />take effect and be in force immediately upon it~ adoption ~d~p~roval by the <br />M~yor.
