RESOLUTION NO. 5300 BY: <br /> <br />Messrs. ChLnnock, Magnotto, <br />McBride, Salmon, Usher,Brockman <br />Brown <br /> <br />A RESOUYTION urging United States Senators Glenn and Metzenbaumto seek <br />hearings as soon as possible on House Resolution 10979 relating to the repair <br />of roadways damaged durmng the 1977-78 winter. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, due to the severity of the weather during the 1977-78 winter season <br />substantial damage was caused 'to the roadways in practically every state of <br />the Union and more particularly mn the greater Cleveland area, including the <br />City of Lakewood, and <br /> <br />WHERFAS, on February 21, 1978 the United States House of Representatives <br />adopted House Resolution 10979 to provide for Federal financial aid to all of <br />the states of the Union for repairing roadways damaged during the winter <br />oust past and an identical version of said Bill ms now before the Senate <br />Environmental and Public Works Conm]ittee, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the provisions of the House adopted bill provide for the allocation <br />of approxDnately $250,000,000 to the states for roadway repair with no matching <br />funds necessary and which money could be used to repair spot patching, chucld~ole <br />filling and related work on any paved road whether on the Federal aid system <br />or not, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is essential that the cities receive this Federal assIstance at <br />the earliest possible time so that repairs could be initiated immediately <br />in the interest of the safety and welfare of all users of the roadways; <br />now, therefore; <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY R]-~ COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br />Section 1. That the Council of the City of Lake~vood for ~]d on behalf of the <br />citizens of the City of Lakewood strongly urges United States Senator John Glenn <br />and United States Senator Howard M. Metzenbanm to seek hearings as soon as <br />possible on the Senate versien of House Resolution 10979 relating to the repair <br />of roadways, which Bill is now before the Senate Enviro~nental and Public Works <br />Committee. <br /> <br />Section 2. That the Clerk of Cotmcil be and she is hereby authorized and <br />directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to United States Senators <br />Job~ Glenn and Howard M. Metzenbaum, Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C. <br />20510. <br /> <br /> / <br /> /~ ~ <br /> <br /> <br />
