RESOLUTION NO. 5415 <br /> <br />BY: Bro~n,Chinnock, McBride, McNally, <br /> Sal~on, Wendling, Brockman <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION expressing the opposition of the Council of the <br />City of Lakewood, for and on behalf of the citizens o% the City of Lakewood, <br />to the increase in service rates for natural gas, as ~equested by The East <br />Ohio Gas Company. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The East Ohio Gas Company has submiltted its request to <br />t~e Public Utilities Commission of Ohio for a rate inclrease of 5.6 percent <br />for natural gas service throughout its entire service territory, including <br />the City of Lakewood, and has included in such requestl for the first time, <br />a monthly service charge of $3.50 to be charged to each customer regardless <br />of the amount of gas used, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council deems the requested increase in rates and <br />charges by The East Ohio Gas Company to be motivated sDlely by the Company's <br />desire to generate excessive profit for, the benefit oflits corporate <br />executives and shareholders, rather than genuine increases in the cost of <br />supplying natural gas, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council regards the rate increases requested by <br />The East Ohio Gas Company as a gross abuse of monopolylpower, highly <br />detrimental to the public interest, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the requested rate increases, if approved, would increase <br />the burden of inflation presently borne by the residents of the City of <br />Lakewood, as well as the other communities located within the Company's <br />service area, and would work a particular hardship on Senior citizens and <br />other individuals dependent upon a fixed income; now, ~herefore, <br /> <br />OHIO: <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF!LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br /> <br /> Section 1. That the Council of the City of ~akewood, for and on <br />behalf of the citizens of the City'of Lakewood, strongly opposes the <br />approval of the rate increases currently being requested by The East Ohio <br />Gas Company, Cleveland, Ohio for natural gas service wiithin its service <br />area, including the establishment of a monthly service charge for all <br />customers of the said utility regardless of the amount iof gas used. <br /> <br /> Section 2, That this Council urges the legisllative authorities <br />of all other affected municipalities to join in opposing the unwarranted rate <br />increases being requested by The East Ohio Gas Company ~nd that the Public <br />Utilities Commission of Ohio be promptly advised of thel adoption of any <br />legislation expressing such opposition. <br /> <br />Approved: ~~/xg~ /~/~ <br /> / <br /> <br /> Section 3.
