RESOLUTION NO. 5469 <br /> <br />BE: <br /> <br />Brown, Chinnock, Gallagher, <br />Graham, McBride, Salmon, <br />Wendling <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to commend Jennifer L. B~wers and Beth <br />McNamara for their acts of heroism in saving the lives of two <br />young children. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on May 3, 1980, Jennifer L. Bowers, whose <br />father, Russell W. Bowers, has been an active melmber of the Lakewood <br />Fire Department for 31 years, and Beth McNamara,, whose father, <br />Joseph McNamara, retired from the Cleveland Fire Department after <br />31 years of service, were visiting overnight in a westside Cleveland <br />home when it was swept by fire, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Jennifer, a graduate of Lake~ood High School, <br />and Beth, a Junior at St. Augustine Academy, witlhout regard for <br />their own personal safety, each individually ca,tied and guided <br />a slx-year old boy and eleven-year old girl to eafety, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the spontaneous and Unselfishl actions of Jennifer <br />and Beth during a time of extreme emergency are credited with <br />saving the lives of the two minor children, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council believes it apprloprlate to <br />memoralize the actions of these two Lakewood youlng people who <br />exemplify the finest example of our youth by thelir bravery and <br />their concern for the safety and welfare of othelrs at the expense <br />of their own personal safety; now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CIITY OF LAKEWOOD, <br />STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council commendsl Jennifer L. Bowers <br />and Beth McNamara and extends to them its apprecliation, and that of <br />all of the citizens of this community, for theirl acts of heroism <br />and their presence of mind during a time of grea~ danger. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby <br />authorized and directed to forward certified coplies of this <br />resolution to Jennifer L. Bowers, 1285 Hall Avenluer Lakewood, Ohio <br />and Beth McNamara, 1247 Hall Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio and that a copy <br />of this resolution be spread upon the minutes o fl this meeting. <br /> <br />Adopted: <br /> <br />Approved: <br /> <br /> <br />
