RESOLUTION NO. 5470 <br /> <br />BY~ Chinnock, Gallagher, Graham, <br /> McBride, Salmon, Wendling, <br /> Brown <br /> <br /> A I{ESOLUTION extending congratulations to The!League of Women Voters <br />of the United States which is celebrating its 60th AnniVersary. <br /> <br /> WHEP~EAS, in 1980, The League of Women Voters ~f the United States <br />is celebrating the 60th Anniversary of its organization~ and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The League of Women Voters of the United States and its <br />state, county and local affiliates are ~o~-partisan organizations established <br />to promote political responsibility through informed and active particIpation <br />of citizens in government, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, membership in The League of Women Vo~ers organizations <br />is open to all citizens 18 years of age and over and League positions are taken <br />on issues but never on candidates, and are the result of membership consensus <br />based on discussions and facts, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The League of Women Voters of the Un~ted States and all <br />of its state, county and local affiliates need the encouragement and financial <br />support of the residents of the various communities which they serve, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, maximum participation of all qualified citizens in the <br />elective process is a basic need for the perpetuation of our democracy, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council washes to congratulate The League of Women <br />Voters of the United States on its 60th Anniversary and lto show its appreciation <br />for its efforts and the efforts of all of the League affiliate organizations in <br />enlightening the public as to the issues in today's democracy; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ~A/(EWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council extends to The ~eague of Women Voters <br />of the United States its congratulations and that of al~ of the citizens of <br />this community on its 60th Anniversary and its outstanding efforts both past <br />and present in enlightening the public as to the issues ,in today's democracy. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized <br />and directed to forward certified copies of this resolution to Ruth J. Hinerfeld, <br />President of The League of Women Voters of the United Stlates, 11 Oak Lane, <br />Larchmont, New York 10538 and to Josephine (Mrs. David) Sprague, President ~of <br />The League of Women Voters of Lakewood, 14611 Lake Aven~e, Lakewood, Ohio and <br />that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minute!s of this meeting. <br /> <br />Approved: <br /> <br /> <br />
