RESOLUTION NO. 5476 BY: Brown, Gallagher, Graham, McBride Wendling A RESOLUTION to commend Garry Bassett, M.D. for his.public service as Health Commissioner of the City of Lakewood. WHEREAS, upon his retirement effective May 31, 1980~ Dr. Garry Bassett completed over thirty-eight (38) years of municipal health service to the City of Lakewood, having first been employed by'the City in January, 1942 as Tuberculosis Clinic Physician and ~erving in that capacity until his appointment as Assistant Health Officer in 1946; and WHEREAS, Dr. Bassett was given a leave of absence b~ the City to serve his country during World War II as a medical efficer on the Aleutian Island of Kiska and in Europe before receiving an honorable discharge in 1945 with the rank of Captain; and WHEREAS, subsequent to his military service, Dr. BaSsett returned to his post as Assistant Health Officer of the City of'Lakewood in 1946, was elevated to the position of Health Commissioner~in Octobers 1949 and served in that capacity until his retirement; and WHEREAS, under his leadership and direction, as only 'the second Health Commissioner in the history of the City, the Health,Department of the City of Lakewood has achieved an enviable record of:performance and service, with the health and welfare of virtually every Lakewood citizen affected in one way or another through the many health programs implemented by Dr. Bassett throughout the years; and WHEREAS through his personal warmth and genuine coneern and interest in his chosen profession, Dr. Bassett has won the deep respect and affection of his fellow City employees and all those who had the privilege of coming in contact with him during his ~enure with the City; and WHEREAS, the years of public service and dedication~rendered by Dr. Bassett should be duly recognized in a proper and fitting manner; now therefore: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOQD, STATE OF OHIO: Section 1. That this Council extends to Garry Bassett, M.D., its appreciation and that of all the citizens of this cemmunity for his more than thirty-eight (38) years.of distinguished ~ublic service to the City of Lakewood including thirty (30) years and seven (7) months as its Health Commissioner, and further, that this Qouncil wishes him continued years of health, happiness and prospeWity in his retirement. Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Garry Bassett, M.D., 12550 Lake Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio, amd that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting.
