RESOLUTION NO. 5512 BY: <br /> <br />Brown, ChinnoCk, Gallagher, <br />Graham, McBride, Salmon, <br />Wendling <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION expressing the concern of this Council regarding the <br />recent brutal murders which occurred in E1 Salvador, expressing its sorrow <br />and condolence to the families of the victims and urging the appropriate <br />elected representatives to the Congress of the United States to withhold any <br />further aid or assistance to El Salvador until a thorough investigation can <br />be completed. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the cold blooded murder of four American women missionaries <br />in E1 Salvador, one of whom was a resident of the City of Lakewood, has <br />shocked not only the entire community of the City of Lakewood, Ohio, but the <br />entire nation as well, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, already nearly 9,000 people have died from the senseless <br />and savage violence now taking place in the country of E1 Salvador, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the United States Government should withhold all further <br />aid and assistance to E1 Salvador pending proof that such aid and assistance <br />will not be used in the furtherance of such violence; now, therefore, <br /> <br />OHIO: <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council wishes to express its deep concern <br />regarding the cold blooded murder of four American women missionaries in <br />E1 Salvador, two of whom were members of the Cleveland Catholic Diocese, <br />~ster Dorothy Kazel and lay-missionary Jean Donovan, a resident of the City <br />of Lakewood, and further to express its deep sorrow and condolence to <br />the families of these dedicated missionaries. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That this Council condemns and abhors such a barbarous <br />act and all the violence currently taking place in E1 Salvador and strongly <br />urges the appropriate elected representatives to the Congress of the United <br />States to demand that no further United States Government aid or assistance <br />be sent to El Salvador until a thorough investigation has been completed and <br />this country is assured that no such United States aid or assistance will be <br />used in any way to continue the senseless violence now occurring in E1 Salvador. <br /> <br /> Section 3. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized <br />and directed to forward certified copies of this Resolution to United States <br />Senators Howard Metzenbaum and John H. Glenn and to United States Representatives <br />Mary Rose Oakar, Ronald M. Mottl, Charles A. Vanik and Louis Stokes. <br /> <br /> Section 4. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force <br />immediately upon its adoption and approval by the Mayor at the earliest period <br />allowed by law. <br /> <br />Pres i dent <br /> <br /> <br />
