P.ESOLUTIOPJ NO: 5944-85 BY: Brown, Chinnock, Gallagher, Graham,
McBride, Wentlling
A RESOLUTION expressing to the Lieutenant General of the U.S.
Army Corps of Enginners the necessity of continuing to dredge the Federal
Navigational Channel of the Rocky River Harbor.
WHEREAS, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers signed an Agreement
in 1967 to maintain the Federal Navigational Channel of Rocky River with
dredging procedures if necessary, and
WHEREAS, it has been determined periodic dredging is necessary
to maintain a navigable water depth for recreational craft using the
Harbor, and
WHEREAS, it has been determined periodic dredging is necessary
for flood damage prevention, and
WHEREAS, the Cleveland Metroparks System and the Cleveland
Yacht Club cannot fulfill their dredging responsibilities if the Federal
Channel is not periodically dredged, and
WHEREAS, fish and wildlife values and land use will be adverse-
ly affected unless periodic dredging takes place;
Now Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That this Council for and on behalf of the
residents of the City of Lakewood, hereby expresses to the Lieutenant
General of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers its deep concern that the
Corps of Engineers may not continue to dredge the Federal Navigational
Channel of the Rocky River Harbor which may result in the eventual endan-
germent of a safe harbor for navigational purposes, flood damage preven-
tion, and diminished fish and wildlife values, and such refusal is not
within the spirit of the Agreement the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
signed in 1967 to maintain the Federal Navigational Channel of Rocky
River Harbor.
Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be, and she is hereby
authorized and directed to forward certified copies of this resolution
to the Lieutenant General of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 20 Massa-
chusetts Avenue, N.W., Room 8228, Pulaski Building, Washington, D.C.
20001, and Congressman Edward F.
