<br /> RESOLUTION N0. 6254-$8 BY: Brown, Chinnock, Gazzana, George, Graham, <br /> Wendling <br /> A RESOLUTION urging Congress and the U.S. D eprroanent <br /> of Agriculture to replace TEFAP by providing a p <br /> resources program for national hunger needs. <br /> WHEREAS the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) <br /> is being phased out by the United States Department of <br /> Agriculture, arrd <br /> WHEREAS Lakewood residents will feel the effect of this <br /> phaseout when government surplus commodities of cheese, butter <br /> and rice are no longer available for local distribution <br /> (approximately five thousand units distributed in 1987), and <br /> WHEREAS the Cleveland Food Bank, in cooperation with <br /> the nation-wide food bank organizations, is advocating that <br /> Congress and the U.S. Department of Agriculture <br /> increase food stamp funding, <br /> replace °1Temporary" with "Permanent" Emergency <br /> Food Assistance Program(s) for crisis food needs <br /> of individuals and families and <br /> institute permanent funding for national hunger <br /> needs, and <br /> WHEREAS the Council of the City of Lakewood, mindful <br /> that the phaseout of the Temporary Emergency Food Assistance <br /> Program affects ten per cent of Lakewood's residents, in <br /> cooperaton with Cleveland Food Bank and the national food bank <br /> organizations, wishes to demonstrate concern; now, therefore <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKE6VOOD, <br /> STATE OF OHIO: <br /> Section 1. That this Council for and on behalf of the <br /> citizens of Lakewood urges the Congress and the U.S. Department <br /> of Agriculture to provide stable, permanent resources for <br /> national hunger needs to replace the Temporary Emergency Food <br /> Assistance Programs. <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby <br /> authorized -and directed to forward certified copies of this <br /> resolution to Senator Quentin N. Burdick, Chair, Agriculture <br /> Sub-Committee, Congressman Jamie L.
