RESOLUTION NO. 6348-89 <br /> <br /> BY: Brown, Chinnock, Gallagher, <br />Gazzana, George, Graham, Wendling <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to extend appreciation of this community to the <br />members of the Paramedic Squad for the outstanding service provided <br />and to Lakewood Hospital for developing this outstanding service and <br />providing resources to assure its continuation both now and into the <br />future. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the entire West Shore community has benefited from <br />Lakewood Hospital's paramedic and rescue squad service and this <br />Council wishes to express its appreciation to all persons who <br />participate and participated in the development of and the provision <br />of this high quality service, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council recognizes the value of <br />Hospital's paramedic and rescue service and mandated that <br />continued under the reorganized Hospital, and <br /> <br />Lakewood <br />such be <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Lakewood Hospital as a municipal institution and as <br />a private not-for-profit institution has endeavored to provide <br />employment practices which are fair and just to all parties and <br />accordingly has promoted positive relations, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, some members of the Lakewood Hospital Paramedic <br />Squad requested support of this Council in their attempt to obtain <br />recognition as a separate bargaining unit and recently stated their <br />reasons therefore to this Council, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council has been advised that the Hospital <br />desires to meet with, directly discuss and attempt to resolve the <br />concerns expressed; however, may not do so at this time since <br />established labor laws and procedures prohibit the Hospital from <br />dealing directly with the paramedics since a petition is pending at <br />the National Labor Relations Board; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council expresses its appreciation to <br />the members of the Paramedic Squad for the outstanding service <br />provided and to the Hospital for developing this outstanding service <br />and providing resources to assure its continuation both now and into <br />the future. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That this Council reaffirms its support of the <br />paramedic and rescue squad services and urges the parties to promptly <br />resolve their differences in order that fair and equitable employment <br />practices are maintained and that parity is considered in relation to <br />pay, hours of work and duties performed. <br /> <br /> Section 3. It is found and determined that all formal <br />actions of this Council concerning and relating to the passage of this <br />resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, and that <br />all such deliberations of this Council and of any of its committees <br />that resulted in such formal action were in meetings open to the <br />public in compliance with all legal requirements. <br /> <br /> Section 4. That this resolution is hereby declared to be an <br />emergency measure for the reasons stated in the preamble hereof and <br />provided it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members <br />elected to Council, it shall take effect and be in force immediately <br />upon its adoption and approval by the Mayor; otherwise, it shall take <br />effect and be in force after the earliest period allowed by law. <br /> <br />Approved:~ ~ <br /> <br />PRES IDENT <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
