RESOLUTION NO. 6395-89 BY: Brown, Chinnock, Gallagher, George, Graham, Wendling A RESOLUTION urging the Ohio House and the Ohio Senate leadership and the elected representatives to the State Legislature to support the adoption of House Bill 305 restricting the use of automated dialing and announcing equipment to make calls for commercial purposes except under certain circumstances and subject to certain conditions. WHEREAS, the majority of the City's households are telephone equipment customers listed in the telephone directory and accessible to general communication, and WHEREAS, owning telephone equipment presently subjects customers to the nuisance caused by computer generated phone calls, and WHEREAS, adoption of House Bill 305 would place restrictions on the use of automated dialing and announcing equipment to make calls for commercial purposes and would impose certain conditions on using or allowing the use of automated equipment to make calls for either commercial or noncommercial purposes, and WHEREAS, automated calling conditions, and adoption of House Bill done for noncommercial 305 would subject purposes to certain WHEREAS, adoption of House Bill 305 would require a person using or allowing the use of the automated equipment, or the business entity by which he is employed, to register with the Attorney General, and WHEREAS, this Council desires to express to the appropriate elected representatives to the Ohio Legislature its deep concern for the continued welfare and safety of citizens, those citizens who are telephone number consumers, particularly those residents of the City of Lakewood, Ohio; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: Section 1. That the Council of the City of Lakewood for and on behalf of the citizens of the City of Lakewood, Ohio, and particularly those persons who are consumers of communications equipment in Lakewood residences, strongly urges the elected representatives to the Ohio Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives to support the adoption of House Bill 305 which restricts, subjects and requires certain conditions surrounding the use of computer generated automated equipment. Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is authorized and directed to forward certified copies of this Resolution to co-sponsors of House Bill 305, Mmes. Campbell, Pringle, Boster, Sheerer, and Messrs. Mottl and Schuck, and House District 8 Representative Cain and Senate District 23 Senator Butts, c/o State House, Columbus, Ohio, 43266, and that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting.
