RESOLUTION NO. 6395-89 <br /> <br /> BY: Brown, Chinnock, <br />Gallagher, George, Graham, Wendling <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION urging the Ohio House and the Ohio Senate <br />leadership and the elected representatives to the State <br />Legislature to support the adoption of House Bill 305 restricting <br />the use of automated dialing and announcing equipment to make <br />calls for commercial purposes except under certain circumstances <br />and subject to certain conditions. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the majority of the City's households are <br />telephone equipment customers listed in the telephone directory <br />and accessible to general communication, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, owning telephone equipment presently subjects <br />customers to the nuisance caused by computer generated phone <br />calls, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, adoption of House Bill 305 would place <br />restrictions on the use of automated dialing and announcing <br />equipment to make calls for commercial purposes and would impose <br />certain conditions on using or allowing the use of automated <br />equipment to make calls for either commercial or noncommercial <br />purposes, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, <br />automated calling <br />conditions, and <br /> <br />adoption of House Bill <br />done for noncommercial <br /> <br /> 305 would subject <br />purposes to certain <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, adoption of House Bill 305 would require a <br />person using or allowing the use of the automated equipment, or <br />the business entity by which he is employed, to register with the <br />Attorney General, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council desires to express to the <br />appropriate elected representatives to the Ohio Legislature its <br />deep concern for the continued welfare and safety of citizens, <br />those citizens who are telephone number consumers, particularly <br />those residents of the City of Lakewood, Ohio; now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, <br />STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That the Council of the City of Lakewood for <br />and on behalf of the citizens of the City of Lakewood, Ohio, and <br />particularly those persons who are consumers of communications <br />equipment in Lakewood residences, strongly urges the elected <br />representatives to the Ohio Senate and the Ohio House of <br />Representatives to support the adoption of House Bill 305 which <br />restricts, subjects and requires certain conditions surrounding <br />the use of computer generated automated equipment. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is <br />authorized and directed to forward certified copies of this <br />Resolution to co-sponsors of House Bill 305, Mmes. Campbell, <br />Pringle, Boster, Sheerer, and Messrs.
