RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />6404-89 <br /> <br /> BY: Chinnock, Gallagher, <br />Gazzana, George, Graham, Wendling <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION supporting the proposed Americans <br />Disabilities Act. <br /> <br />With <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the United States Senate has enacted new laws for <br />citizens with disabilities encaptioned The Americans With Disabilities <br />Act, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the <br />public facilities and <br />persons, and <br /> <br />purpose of such act is to improve access to <br />to expand job opportunities for disabled <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, such Act would be a benefit to <br />citizens and would create neither an undue hardship for <br />public bodies, and <br /> <br />our disabled <br /> business or <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Americans With Disabilities Act would be a <br />benefit to all our citizens and improve the quality of life of our <br />disabled citizens, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this resolution constitutes an emergency <br />for the preservation of the health, Safety and welfare <br />citizens; now, therefore, <br /> <br />measure <br />of our <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br />Section 1. That this Council supports Senate Bill 76-8, the <br />Americans With Disabilities Act, and urges the United States House of <br />Representatives to adopt such Act and President Bush toasuch Act into <br />law. ~,~ <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby <br />authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution <br />to Congressman Edward Feighan, Congresswoman Mary Rose Oakar, Senator <br />John Glenn, Senator Howard Metzenbaum, the Clerk of the United States <br />House of Representatives, the Clerk of the United States Senate and <br />President George Bush. <br /> <br /> Section 3. It is found and determined that all formal <br />actions of this Council concerning and relating to the passage of this <br />resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council and that <br />all such deliberations of this Council and of any of its committees <br />that resulted in such formal action were in meetings open to the <br />public in compliance with all legal requirements. <br /> <br /> Section 4. That this resolution is hereby declared to be an <br />emergency measure for the reasons stated in the preamble hereof and <br />provided it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members <br />elected to Council, it shall take effect and be in force immediately <br />upon its adoption and approval by the Mayor; otherwise, it shall take <br />effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by <br />law. <br /> <br />Adopted: <br /> <br />PRESIDENT <br /> <br />Approved: ~~~.(~ 3, <br /> <br />CLERK <br /> <br /> <br />
