RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />6488-90 <br /> <br />BY: Boscia, Gallagher, <br /> Gazzana, George <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION supporting the passage of House Bill 425 to <br />establish universal health insurance for Ohio. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Ohio employer's health benefit costs rose <br />almost 25% last year paid for by employees through higher <br />co-payments and deductibles, eligibility restrictions and reduced <br />family coverage, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, 1.4 million Ohioans, including a quarter of a <br />million children, have no health insurance at all, and the number <br />is growing rapidly, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, House Bill 425, introduced by Rep. Robert Hagan <br />of Youngstown and pending before the General Assembly would create <br />universal health insurance in Ohio ("OHIO") run by a single <br />simplified public system, cutting out the bureaucracy and waste of <br />the present health insurance companies, and making cost control <br />much easier by public negotiation with doctors and hospitals, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Ohio would provide full coverage for necessary <br />doctors, hospitals and clinic care for every Ohioan, would cover <br />prescription drugs with a one dollar ($1.00) co-payment, and would <br />permit every Ohioan to choose his or her doctor or hospital, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, House Bill 425 is patterned after a similar <br />program in Canada which has been in existence for two decades, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Canadian program insures everyone, does it <br />for 41% less per person than in Ohio, has almost no paperwork and <br />requires one-fifth the cost of Ohio health programs to administer, <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council <br />for Ohio; now, therefore, <br /> <br />believes that <br /> <br />the time has come <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section <br />Assembly to enact <br />insurance in Ohio. <br /> <br />1. That this Council urges the <br /> House bill 425 to establish universal <br /> <br />General <br />health <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is <br />hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this <br />resolution to Representative Madeline A. Cain and Speaker of the <br />House Vernal Riffe, c/o House Clerk, State House, Columbus, OH <br /> <br />43266-0603, and to Senator Charles Butts and Presij~_D~ of the <br /> ~t?
